Coalition for Smart Growth in the Mount Comfort Corridor (Coalition for Smart Growth) is a group of businesses and municipalities located in Hancock County working to promote smart, sustainable growth in the region. Businesses leading the Smart Growth Coalition include NineStar Connect, Hancock Health, and Greenfield Banking Company. Municipalities include McCordsville, Cumberland, and New Palestine.
We are working to implement the vision put forward in the 2019 Urban Land Institute (ULI) study that will ensure planned and sustainable growth for the Mount Comfort Corridor. The ULI study envisions planned growth for four nodes along the Mount Comfort Corridor: McCordsville, Indianapolis Regional Airport, Cumberland and New Palestine. We are putting the necessary infrastructure, resources, and services in place to promote the region as a desirable place to work, play and recreate. Already, Hancock County is the most wired county in the state.
With over a billion dollars in new investment in 2021, the Mount Comfort Corridor is experiencing rapid growth that must be planned for and managed carefully to ensure the region maintains its identity.
McCordsville is the 3rd fastest growing city and Hancock County is the 6th fastest growing county in the state. The Mt Comfort Corridor Plan found that the Corridor will have an expected gap of almost 14,000 homes in the next 10 years.
The region has a well-trained workforce, ranking #2 in the state for high school diplomas or higher and #8 for bachelor’s degrees. The region’s 2.9% unemployment rate is the lowest in the state.
The Mount Comfort Corridor is an easy driving distance from all of Indianapolis: just 12 minutes from Fishers, and 40 minutes from Indianapolis International Airport. The area encompasses US-40, SR-52, SR-67, as well as I-70.
